About our control wheels

Universal takes great pride in offering type specific wheels that both look and function like the actual wheel.

The design team goes to great lengths to research each wheel prior to carving a model which will later be used to create the mold impression. Visits to the actual flight deck of the wheel being modeled are performed. Information is collected on worksheets. Measurements and angles are ascertained using a calibrated caliper and protractor. Even switching pressure is researched. During the course of modeling the wheel the team often re-visits the flight deck several times to assess accuracy and denote corrections.

Once the team is satisfied with the model, the wheel is stamped with our "AIRMAN" seal of approval (see below) and shipped to our Atlanta wheel division for molding and cast production. As each cast is produced, it is later out-sourced where a special aviation grade PPG paint is applied. Hardware is then assembled
and the product is prepared for column assembly.
